Teaching Everyone to Swim
America's Favorite Swim Instructor
There is a reason why the YMCA is referred to as "America's Favorite Swim Instructor". In Y Classes, not only are you taught in a caring way how to swim, but you also learn about yourself, about safety and rescue skills, and about water activities you can enjoy for a lifetime.
PRESCHOOL LESSONS (AGES 3 - 5)
YMCA preschool swimming lessons begin with water adjustment and stresses safety and confidence in the aquatic environment.
YOUTH LESSONS (AGES 6 & UP)
Begins with water adjustment and progresses toward competency in all strokes with an emphasis on safety and self-esteem.
LEVEL - A. Water Discovery: Can the student respond to verbal cues and jump on land?
LEVEL - B. Water Exploration: Is the student comfortable working with an instructor without a parent in the water?
LEVEL 1 - Water Acclimation: Will the student go underwater voluntarily?
LEVEL 2 - Water Movement: Can the student do a front and back float on his/her own?
LEVEL 3 - Water Stamina: Can the student swim 10-15 yards on his/her front and back?
LEVEL 4 - Stroke Introduction: Can the student swim 15 yards of front and back crawl?
LEVEL 5 - Stroke Development: Can the student swim front crawl, back crawl, and breastroke across the pool?
LEVEL 6 - Stroke Mechanics: Can the student swim front crawl, back crawl, and breastroke across the pool and back?
Each session is TWICE a week for 4 weeks (unless otherwise noted) and includes 8 lessons lasting 45 minutes each. Classes are Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday! Register for swim lessons NOW!
